Living in the Gray

A memoir about navigating life’s paradoxes

Living in the Gray by April Capochino Myers

Living in the Gray is a memoir about loss, contradiction, change, and the long process of finding peace without pretending life is simple.

Through snapshots from her own life, April writes about the moments that changed her, the lessons she resisted, and what she learned about making room for two opposing truths at the same time.

About the book

Living in the Gray is a culmination of personal writing from the past decade during a time in April’s life when she stopped seeing the world defined in absolutes but in varying shades of gray. This memoir is not a linear timeline or biography. It’s a glimpse into April’s messy, beautiful, heartbreaking, and joyful life. It’s raw and real and brave. It’s snapshots and moments and milestones that she felt called to capture and write about.

This journey has taught her two important lessons. One, when you get out of your own way and stop resisting everything around you, the world unfolds exactly as it should, and you find your space in it. And two, life is a constant paradox where two complete opposites can exist at the very same time. There is no good without bad and no joy without sadness. The world is composed of many shades of gray.

Praise for Living in the Gray
“April’s work embodies authenticity. With a voice that is candid, unfiltered and unmistakably her own, she invites readers into her world with a rare kind of honesty. Reading her words feels less like reading and more like sitting across from a trusted friend who’s willing to tell the whole truth — beautiful, messy and everything in between.”
— Mandy Rowe
“April writes in a way that stirs something awake in you. She has an uncanny ability to capture the paradox of humanity in every piece, taking the words from the page directly into your heart. Every story becomes a reckoning, where your own tenderness, contradictions, and hidden hopes quietly rise to the surface.”
— Susie Trigg Tucker
“April is a writer for the people. All people. Every man, every woman. Her writing lifts people up, her honesty is sobering and her perspective is so on point that it’s revealing to read her, hear her and know her.”
— Beth Carter-Pivovar
